Senior Quality Officer

About the Role
You will lead the Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions for Life Sciences NZ, making sure every product meets strict internal standards and regulatory requirements. Keep quality systems strong, maintain essential certifications, manage audits and quality issues, and drive ongoing improvement using KPIs and KAIs. Support product stewardship through safe handling and accurate documentation, and work closely with stakeholders to ensure consistent, compliant delivery across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Quality & Regulatory function for Pure Nature and Pure Ingredients in New Zealand, ensuring strong governance and alignment with business objectives.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and escalation support to the Quality Assurance Officer, fostering capability development and high performance.
- Ensure full compliance with internal quality standards, external regulatory frameworks, and all required certifications.
- Maintain, enhance, and optimise QA and QC systems, ensuring they remain robust, efficient, and fit for purpose.
- Build strong cross‑functional collaboration to embed a proactive quality culture, strengthen capability, and support sustainable quality systems across the business.
- Lead internal, external, and third‑party audits, ensuring successful outcomes and preventing major non‑conformances.
- Oversee daily QC operations, including raw material assessment, product testing, finished product release, specification approvals, vendor quality management, and documentation control.
- Manage quality incidents and customer complaints, driving timely resolution and preventing recurrence.
- Develop and implement CAPA actions in partnership with cross‑functional teams and service providers.
- Establish, monitor, and review Quality & Regulatory KPIs, using data and insights to measure system performance and drive continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
- Strong technical understanding of food, pharmaceutical, and personal care manufacturing environments.
- At least 7 years’ experience in a quality role in the relevant industry,
- A demonstrated technical understanding of food, pharma and personal care industries,
- Experience in the maintenance of quality systems certified to quality standards such as ISO 9001, Quality Management Systems
- Prior people leadership experience, preferred
- Experience in auditing internal business partners and external suppliers/vendors.
- Customer‑focused mindset, ensuring quality outcomes that support service excellence.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Strong commercial awareness, balancing quality requirements with business needs.
- Collaborative team player, able to build strong working relationships across functions.
- Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong influencing skills, driving quality culture and continuous improvement across the organisation.
